Summer is upon us and many families and individuals are planning a summer vacation. We are taking a trip to Jamaica in August, so our planning is all done. I’m particularly looking forward to the jerk chicken, beautiful sun and sand. Even if I’m not leaving my house, I relish taking days off. It’s better than sitting at my desk. Besides, I earned those days off.
My Vacation Days
Vacation is a benefit that is a norm for most employees. I was fortunate to start off with 3 weeks of vacation in my first job. Some of my friends started off with only 2 weeks. I think I would take individual days off if that were the case. I currently have 23 vacation to use each year. I normally take 1 full week off and several 2 or 3 day mini-vacations. So I cannot complain.
Use Them or Lose Them
Use your vacation days because you earned and deserve them. 40% of companies do not rollover unused vacation days. Why work more than you have to? You should use and enjoy them.
If I was able to rollover my vacation days I would consider doing so, then I would be able to take a 2 week vacation once in awhile. If you are looking at retirement and could use your rollover vacation days to retire a few months early and still get paid, that might not be a bad thing.
What the Company Says
Companies want employees to use their vacation days because it helps maintain and increase productivity, performance, wellness and morale. I have never heard any of my bosses specifically say this. But I have experienced genuine delight when talking to them about what I did while I was off from work.
Benefits of Using Vacation Days
Body needs to rest and recuperate
Travel is good for the soul, or so they say
“Staycations” can be productive (renovation projects, home gardening, catching up on chores)
Relaxing is fun
Spend time with friends and family
Catch up on TV and clear out the DVR
Use your days because you deserve it and owe it to yourself. How many vacation days do you have? Can you bank them?
Personal Capital – Before Personal Capital, I had to log into 5 different financial institutions to track my account balances. My finances were scattered but that is no longer the case. Now I can just log into Personal Capital to see how everything is doing in one place. Some of you might need some organization and Personal Capital will help you with that.
MDD Hosting – I am big proponent of using MDD Hosting as my website server. Their tech support is helpful, especially if you are a newbie to website building. I could not be happier with their service and so will you.
StudioPress – I bought the Going Green theme from this site because I loved the layout and colorization. It is advertised for Environmentalist organizations but I loved it because it’s the color of money. There are many other Themes to choose from, so take a tour and see if any of them can help you with your site.
