A few years ago my dad passed away at 75 due to numerous health issues. He suffered from obesity, heart issues and colon cancer. The previous 25 years were a struggle that took a toll on him and the family. One of his favorite sayings was “Health is Wealth”. No matter how much money you have, how can you enjoy it if you’re unhealthy?
We live in a time where we are bombarded with info about nutrition. Label reading, organic foods, gluten-free diets and cleanses were not the norm when I was growing up. It’s obvious that we should avoid fast food, fried foods and microwavable foods. Eating properly really does a body good. I was eating crap food after graduating college. It was a constant flow of pizza, Chinese food and McDonalds. Since 2010, I have cleaned up my diet; more vegetables, more cooking at home and less foods high in sodium. After making this change I felt so much better. A healthy diet is essential to a healthy lifestyle.
I was always a thin person as a kid. I never had weight issues and played sports. In adulthood I realized that even though I was healthy looking, I didn’t have muscle mass. So in 2007 I joined my company gym and saw immediate results. I felt stronger, looked better in my clothes and my self esteem improved. Everyone should either join a gym, play in a sports league or do regular exercise outside. Walk more often, take the stairs, ride a bike, play kickball or do yoga. Burn calories and get off the couch. My mom joined a gym and started playing tennis in her 60’s. She always talked about wanting to learn to play tennis and she finally followed through. She has noticed her flexibility, weight, energy and strength have all improved. It’s never too late to improve your health. Obviously we should start improving our health when we are younger because then it will become a habit as we age.
I don’t know about you but I’m scared of Alzheimer’s. It’s a very debilitating disease that eats your brain and you memories. The Alzheimer’s Association says that reading, doing puzzles and playing chess may help in fighting Alzheimer’s. What I glean from this is that stagnation is not good for the brain. I am not a doctor but this does make some sense. I guess I will have to ensure that reading, doing puzzles and having a hobby be part of my daily routine from now on.

What are you doing to improve your health?
Personal Capital – Before Personal Capital, I had to log into 5 different financial institutions to track my account balances. My finances were scattered but that is no longer the case. Now I can just log into Personal Capital to see how everything is doing in one place. Some of you might need some organization and Personal Capital will help you with that.
MDD Hosting – I am big proponent of using MDD Hosting as my website server. Their tech support is helpful, especially if you are a newbie to website building. I could not be happier with their service and so will you.
StudioPress – I bought the Going Green theme from this site because I loved the layout and colorization. It is advertised for Environmentalist organizations but I loved it because it’s the color of money. There are many other Themes to choose from, so take a tour and see if any of them can help you with your site.
